Vasaloppet is a annual long distance (90 km) cross-country ski race (ski marathon) on the first Sunday of March in northwestern Dalarna, Sweden between the village of Salen and town of Mora. It is the oldest, one of the longest, and in popular consideration the biggest cross-country ski race in the world.[citation needed] In the 80th race, held on 7 March 2004, some 15,500 skiers competed in the main event. A total of more than 40,000 participated in one of the seven different races held during the first week of March. The race was started in 1922 and was inspired by a run by King Gustav Vasa in 1520. The winner of the first race was Ernst Alm from Norsk, 22 years old, who is also the youngest ever winner of the race.

Antonio Lucio Vivaldi (March 4, 1678 – July 28, 1741), nicknamed il Prete Rosso (“The Red Priest”) was an Italian Baroque composer, priest, and virtuoso violinist, born in Venice. Vivaldi is recognized as one of the greatest Baroque composers, and his influence during his lifetime was widespread over Europe. Vivaldi is known mainly for composing instrumental concertos, especially for the violin, as well as sacred choral works and over 40 operas. His best known work is a series of violin concertos known as The Four Seasons.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is a United States federal holiday marking the birthday of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.. It is observed on the third Monday of January each year, which is around the time of King’s birthday, January 15. King was the chief spokesman for nonviolent activism in the civil rights movement, which successfully protested racial discrimination in federal and state law. He was assassinated by a prison escapee in 1968 on the balcony of a hotel as he went to get some fresh air before making a speech.
