Salvation Mountain is a colorful artificial mountain north of Calipatria, California, near Slab City. It is made from adobe, straw, and thousands of gallons of paint. It was created by Leonard Knight to convey the message that “God Loves Everyone”.

Leonard Knight has been painting and repainting his bright Biblical messages on the sides of Salvation Mountain since the 1985. On the arid flats east of San Diego, his mountain pokes up into the bright sun. Odds are you’ll get excellent photos, and Leonard will be busy repainting faded parts of his vision. He requests that all donations be in the form of paint, preferably acrylic.

Leonard is a classic lone dreamer, intent on feeding his vision. But he’s friendly, welcoming all who visit. He sleeps in the Salvation Truck, a decorated vehicle with a house on the back. The truck, like the mountain, is lettered with biblical quotations and a large “REPENT” warning. The sight of Salvation Mountain his three story tall, 100-foot wide riot of concrete, adobe and paint greets him each morning.

Salvation Mountain continues to thrive and grow. Steps carved into the mountain allow visitors to ascend to the upper terraces. You can pretty much climb anywhere you like for a photo opportunity. Just bring some paint.

Kevin has always shown an interest in all types of creatures large and small and from an early age at just 3, was breeding crickets under his bed and keeping a pet toad called “Paddajie”.

He grew from a young boy who cared for so many animals that he was called “The Bird Man of Orange Grove” in his home town to an adolescent who ran wild and, finally, to a man who is able to cross the divide between humans and predators. As a self-taught animal behaviorist, Richardson has broken every safety rule known to humans when working with these wild animals.

Flouting common misconceptions that breaking an animal’s spirit with sticks and chains is the best way to subdue them, he uses love, understanding and trust to develop personal bonds with them. His unique method of getting to know their individual personalities, what makes each of them angry, happy, upset, or irritated-just like a mother understands a child-has caused them to accept him like one of their own into their fold.

Kevin has used his unique relationship with these large predators to make documentaries and commercials while working at the Lion Park in Johannesburg, South Africa. It was there that award winning documentary maker Michael Rosenberg spotted Kevin’s unusual abilities and decided to capture these special relationships on film which kick started off Kevin’s documentary making career with Dangerous Companions, and other shows like Growing up hyena.

Kevin’s has been involved in various conservation and research projects in the Okavango Delta and Lydenberg area and as a result has produced another documentary on black leopard called In Search of a Legend.

The filming work Kevin has been involved in over the years has grown and as a result he has moved with the animals he works with to a larger farm nestled just outside the Cradle of Human Kind 50-60km North of Johannesburg called the Kingdom of the White Lion. He resides opposite the property where the animals are kept, and works closely with them on a daily basis.

It is here he has been working on the dramatic feature film called White Lion, a project in the making for 4 years. The film is soon to be released on the 19th of February 2010 in South Africa and details the life of a young white lion, “Letsatsi”, who against all odds survives to become the magnificent adult white lion he was born to be.

Many Native American tribes practiced polygamy and European mountain men often took native wives and adopted the practice. Some tribes seem to have continued the practice into the 21th century. We are all aware that there is a lot of crazy people in the world. This is a great collection of odd and bizarre pictures and when you see each of them only one thing can get on your mind… WTF?!?!?

Suman Khatun, a five year-old obese Indian girl who suffers from a suspected hormonal imbalance, is so insatiably hungry she is eating herself to death, doctors fear.

In just one week, she devours over 10 kilograms of rice, 24 eggs, six litres of milk and five kilos of potatoes.

Her hunger even leads her to sneak out and pester her neighbours for food in the village of Metiala in the Indian state of West Bengal.

Earning just £6 a week, her parents have reached their wits’ end with their daughter who weighs in at almost 12 stone, despite being only three and half feet tall.

“When she is not fed she cries, shouts, screams and has even thrown rocks at us” says Suman’s mother Belly Bibi, 33.

Crippled by their daughter’s appetite, Suman’s family has been unable to afford to travel to Calcutta for expert medical treatment.

Suman struggles to walk as she suffers from severe respiratory problems.

At 2, Suman weighed seven stone and her weight has increased by up to 15 kilos per year

“I believe that it is a clear case of a malfunctioning pituitary gland…but without diagnostic tools I can only treat the symptoms”.
