Every year from July 7th-14th thousands pack into Pamplona to start Spain’s most famous bull-running fiesta to honour Navarre capital’s patron saint, San Fermin. Spain stages more than 3,000 fiestas (festivals) each year but the 7 days of bull-running are the favourite in terms of spectacle and excitement.
The Pamplona bull run takes place at 8am every morning from 7th to 14th July. Runners must be in the running area by 7.30am. The actual run stretches from the corral at Santo Domingo where the bulls are kept, to the bullring where they will fight that same afternoon. The length of the run is 825 metres and the average time of the run from start to finish is about three minutes. The streets through the old town which make up the bull run are walled off so the bulls can’t escape. Each day six fighting bulls run the route as well as two herds of bullocks.

Seven runners gored and 6 others injured in this running. Two of the gored are in very serious condition.. This is very dangerous festival but also very important part of Spanish tradition and glorious historical event.

Leopard seals can eat penguins at a rate of six per hour. That’s a whole lotta penguins!

It must have been horrible to be the researcher that had to observe and tally this slaughter. That is, unless that particular researcher hates penguins. Then, it must have been deeply satisfying.

The leopard seal is bold, powerful and curious. In the water, there is a fine line between curiosity and predatory behavior, and it may ‘play’ with penguins that it does not intend to eat.
