Why do people choose a particular brand of commercial varieties? The biggest secret of advertising is discovering the motive for buying. Here are some examples of how global brands look for the true reasons for buying their products through trial and error and then use small advertising tricks to boost sales.

Snickers

The first Snickers chocolate bars in Russia appeared in 1992 presented as a snack that can replace a complete meal. For a long time, a consumer from former Soviet Russia could not get used to the fact that they could eat chocolate instead of soup for dinner, and bought a Snickers as a “sweet with tea.” Once the agency BBDO Moscow advertised the product as the real thing for teens who love sweets and do not like soup, the popular bar sales went through the roof.

Dewar’s

Brandy, rum and gin were very popular in London in the late 19 th century . Promoting whiskey, therefore, was not easy. Thomas Dewar, the co-founder of ancestral brand, chose a surprising strategy.
He hired fake shoppers who visited various pubs and required whiskey Dewar’s. Naturally, it was not available, and they left. After several parishes Dewar himself appeared at the bar and offered to sign a contract on the supply of whiskey.
In 1892, Thomas Dewar went on a trip around the world. Over the period of two years he visited 26 countries, and the company began working in 1932. The sales increased by 10 times. Tommy Duhart wrote his famous book “A Walk Around the World.”

Alka-Seltzer

Once in the 1960′s in advertising Alka-Seltzer threw a glass of water, not one as earlier, and two tablets, the sale of the drug increased exactly in half. Cunning publicity stunt invented agency Tinker & Partners. There is a similar stunt for a shampoo advertising: once in the instructions for use shampoo indicated that it should be applied to the hair and rinse twice, the sale  universally doubled.

Pepsi

Nikita Khrushchev first advertised Pepsi in Russia . In 1959 at the American National Exhibition in Moscow, Sokolniki the  U.S. Vice President Richard Nixon, skillfully playing the role of host, invited Nikita Khrushchev to drink the sample. The photo in which the Soviet leader is holding the cup with the Pepsi logo had been on the pages of newspapers and advertising journals for a long time. That fateful moment in the history of the brand is considered a “Happy Birthday” Pepsi in Russia.

Parliament

An interesting trick was also used for the cigarette brand Parliament. Initially, its price was lower than their main competitor, Marlboro, and sales were fairly modest. Parliament cigarettes were in the low-price category and few consumers appreciated their exclusive filter. Then, a year later, their price became higher than Marlboro, hitting a niche “premium”, which happened because of their different filter.

Woolworth

Founder of the biggest store chain Woolworth have found the correct insight that allowed him to forge millions. Shy and stammering young man from a village in the age of 21, settled as assistant seller in a small shop. In that time the price of goods in the stores, placed on the counter for the seller, was not shown. Seller “by eye” determined the richness of the buyer, and called its price. Further, the buyer  trade, or buy. Poor Frank didn’t know how to do that. He was so afraid that one day even fainted while he worked. Because of that, a shop owner fired him. Before opening the store Frank attached to the lowest possible price on paper  (a prototype of the modern price tag). The whole sticker, dumped in a warehouse, he put on a huge table, and attach the plaque with the inscription “All five cents.”  He placed table near a window so that the goods and the plate was visible from the street. Shaking with fear, he waited for customers by hiding behind the counter. All goods are sold out for several hours. Frank retired from the owner, took the money and opened his own shop. In 1919, the Woolworth empire consisted of thousands of shops, and a personal fortune of Frank was about 65 million.

Guinness World Records

The famous and best-selling (after the Bible) “Guinness World Records” is nothing more than a publicity stunt invented by the Managing Director of Guinness Brewery, Sir Hugh Bivero. In 1954, at a dinner hosted by “Wexford” for hunters, Hugh Beaver started with one of the guests asking him, who flies faster – plover or grouse. This is where the Beaver started this unfolding debate about the “most-most.” And he decided that he should create a book that will contain the records officially confirmed in various fields. Years was spent on research, and in August 27, 1955 everything was ready for the first book on 198 pages. The success was stunning: even before Christmas it became a bestseller in Britain, bringing a good income.

Camel

In 1913, the Camel cigarette brand is one of the first in America tested the teaser ads. Deciding that a camel – it is not only a vivid image, but also an excellent opportunity for advertising innovations, experts of the company RJR for a few days before admission to the sale of cigarettes, published a cryptic messages in the newspapers . “Camels” – read the first one. A few days later, a new message: “The camels are coming” and then: “Tomorrow, the camels will be greater than in Asia and Africa combined!” The next morning, intrigued by the Americans finally learned the truth. “Camel cigarettes are here!” and new cigarettes are born.

Nestle

The original logo of the company Nestlé, founded in the 60 years of 19 century, was as follows: nest with three birds and their mother. As a trade mark for its first product, Henri Nestlé (Henri Nestlé) used a family coat of arms. It is believed that traditional family should have parents and three children, at that time. Later, closer to the mid 20 th century, the tradition has changed. And logo was changed also.

Marlboro

Marlboro brand  first time appeared in 1924 and positioned itself as the first lady’s cigarettes. It was picked purely feminine slogan: «Mild as May» – «Gentle as May”. Mae West, Hollywood star,  was hired as an advertising person. Packing of cigarettes was also made for ‘The ladies’ audience: a filter with a stripe of red serve. It has a dual purpose: to hide sloppy trail of lipstick and to protect women’s white teeth from yellowing. But no matter how they tried, product was not enough attractive to women: people had  a painful dry cough. Therefore, in order to survive in the market after two decades, the brand had to change their sex. In order to change the perception of cigarettes with filter, as a product “for girls”, Philip Morris has hired one of the best American specialists on advertising – Leo Burnett, which coined the image of “Cowboy – tamer of the prairie.” Cowboy – the embodiment of American spirit – touched a consumers. Posters of these heroes of America – brutal guys, the likes of wild steppes, was a huge success. They conquered all – men and women, black and Latino. Marlboro sales in just one year grew so much that began to occupy the fourth position in the ranking of sales of all tobacco products. In addition, Malrboro were produced in, which later became the standard packaging, «Flip-top». Such a package has and a tremendous marketing value.

Red Bull

When the drink Red Bull started to work in Europe and the U.S.,  main competitors were Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Molson, Labatt and Anheuser-Busch. The concept was similar among all – all toned and stimulated, while energy Jolt Cola contained doubled, compared to Red Bull, caffeine. Then Dietrich Mateschitz was preparing to made risky step. He put a double price  compared with its competitors, reducing the amount of container and began to place banks in stores, not only in departments of drinks, but also among other products. In addition, boxes of Red Bull were distributed free to students on college campuses. Red Bull was especially popular on collage and, later, parties because it has ben discovered he it made a perfect drink mixed with  vodka. Thus were born a new and hugely popular cocktail Vodka Red Bull.

Ariel

Rumor has it that the so-called casual fridays, when you can depart from the strict dress code, adopted in large companies and change the official costume for casual clothes, came up with P & G for promotional purposes. In the 80 years of 20 century the world’s largest company P & G has been the market leader in washing powders in the USA. But, despite the high advertising activity, market share does not want to grow. The company then conducted a study and evaluate the market care for clothing. In percentage terms it was found out that the powder used in 65% of cases, and dry cleaning – 35%. Further, the company found that 70% of washing powder are employed and 5 of 7 days a week, go to the suits that they give to the dry cleaners. Furthermore, joint research P & G and Levi Strauss Jeans showed that employees in their everyday clothes are much more creative and efficient people. And what have they done? P & G within the company introduces the right to go to job on Fridays in everyday clothes. This  efforts of both companies received huge coverage in the press, and many corporations have followed. Market detergents grew by 20%.

Tefal

Tefal has long believed that the primary motivation for buying a frying pan with teflon coating is that the preparation of these pans do not require spending a single gram of oil. However, subsequently it became clear that the main incentive for their purchase was the fact that the pan  is very easy to clean because food does not stick to their surface. Content of the advertising campaign then has been changed and that greatly increased its effectiveness.

Timberland

In the early 1980′s Timberland Company went through difficult time. It produced high-quality court shoes, and the price was lower than the industry-leading companies Topsiders. It seemed that a good product and low price should be a wining combination, but things went bad. Then,  Timberland took a very simple solution: they raised their prices, so those are much greater than the prices offered by Topsiders. Sales have increased dramatically. That confirms the authenticity of statements by David Ogilvy, “The higher the price, the more desirable it becomes good in the eyes of the buyer.”

IKEA

When the U.S. opened the first stores IKEA, after already received recognition in Europe, sales of furniture does not justify any expectations. After the study which found that Americans like the simplicity of design, and they wanted to match furniture to larger size of their houses. All that needed to be done – to increase the size of furniture.

Chupa Chups

Usually, all the children, after they eat candy, has sticky hands, and they’re just wipe them on cloth. Lollipop (original wood), which could suck invented in 1958 by Enrique Bernat. Main characteristic of the product was that it could suck, not dirtying clothes and hands. In the same time appeared the first slogan of Chupa Chups – «It’s round and long-lasting» (~ He is round and long). Fifty five years later, it’s still very popular.

De Beers

South African diamond company De Beers offered the men a solution to all their problems with women, with brilliant advertising campaign. In 1948, Harry Oppenheimer, head of De Beers, went to New York to meet with representatives of the advertising agency NW Ayers. They went there with the intention to change the way people thought about diamonds: it is necessary to make the stone ceased to be a trinket-bags, and became everyday commodity, without which ordinary people could not do without. Promotional posters featuring spectacular actresses with the rings on his fingers and earrings have replaced black and white posters with images of diamonds and the words “It removes the headache from 1888″, “Think about it. Divorce is expensive “, ” No, your wife did not pay for this advertisement (But she told us which newspaper you read)” and so on. Since De Beers has proven that you can sell a luxury for women through their men.

We all loved cartoons growing up. The characters were wacky, funny, and over the top. But looking back at cartoon characters of past and present, it’s blatantly obvious that many of them have severe medical disorders that are no laughing matter.

Popeye the Sailor Man – Cancer

Overlooking his addiction to canned spinach and the delusions of power that it appears to give him, the massive tumors in this characters forearms should have raised concerns amongst his loved ones and certainly with any medical professional. There’s no telling what long lasting effects having the tumors removed will have on the patient, but it’s a fair assumption that he will lose his arms below the elbow.

Wile E Coyote – Masochism

In what world is strapping yourself to a giant rocket a good idea? Wile E Coyote’s desire to catch his prey is admirable, but the self-destructive manner in which he’s approaching his goal is sure to lead to years of rehabilitation from broken bones, brain trauma, and severe burns. An aggressive course of therapy is the only hope this character has to lead a healthy life.

Garfield the Cat – Eating Disorder

Garfield’s owner, Jon Arbuckle, must be held accountable for some of Garfield’s issues. Allowing your cat to eat lasagna is a questionable decision at best, but ignoring his rampant over-eating is irresponsible. Removing the patient from the care of Mr. Arbuckle and placing him in a treatment facility that specializes in eating disorders should help the patient recover, especially when coupled with a healthy work-out schedule.

Tigger – ADHD/Possible Meth Addiction

Until a blood screening can rule out an addiction to meth, the patient should be treated for both a chemical dependence and for ADHD. Tigers were never meant to bounce on their tails, and Tigger’s speech patterns show signs of mania that may be a symptom of either his addiction or of something more sever. Treatment for his possible chemical dependence and for his hyper-active disorder are in order before attempting to re-integrate him with others of his kind.

He-Man/Prince Adam – Dissociative Identity Disorder

More commonly known as Split Personality Disorder, integrating the two personalities together will be difficult. While the Prince Adam personality is often humble and meek, the He-Man personality is one of of virility and power (the personality name itself is a repeating of male terms), and he in fact claims to be “The Master of the Universe”. While the He-Man personality doesn’t seem to be aware of the Prince Adam one, Prince Adam is very aware of his second personality, often using a sword to bring it to the front when confronted with stress.
Prince Adam must be shown healthier ways of dealing with the stress in his life, and hopefully this can help to re-integrate the He-Man personality into his main personality, giving him the confidence he lacks as Prince Adam, while allowing him to form healthier bonds with those around him.

Glen Quagmire – Sexual Addiction/Fetish/STD

I fear seeing the results of Mr. Quagmire’s STD tests, but that not withstanding, serious steps need to be made to address his serious sexual addictions. Mr. Quagmire regularly engages in high-risk sexual behavior that is sure to have long-lasting medical and legal ramifications. Time spent in a facility designed to deal with sexual addictions is the clear first step, but I fear that chemical castration may be the only solution as Mr. Quagmire seems unlikely to want to alter his behavior and have a healthy sexual relationship with any woman.

Calvin – Hallucinations/Delusions

The fact that the patient is six years old makes this case even more disturbing. The patient’s insistence that his stuffed tiger “Hobbes” is an actual tiger that walks around on two legs and talks with him would be adorable in a child that was still making meaningful relationships with children their own age. Calvin, however, seems to have no other relationships beyond a passing one with a neighborhood girl Sally, and then he often self-destructs anytime the relationship progresses at the behest of the “Hobbes” character.

Normally I would recommend separating Calvin from his stuffed tiger, but I’m afraid of his reaction should anybody try and remove Hobbes from his possession. While I’m loathe to heavily medicate a six year old, I fear that it may be the only option to remove the stuffed animal and allow him to focus on therapy.

World’s Largest Cheesecake

On 25 January 2009, in Mexico City, Mexico, Philadelphia of Kraft Foods Mexico was recognized by Guinness World Records™ as the creator of the largest cheesecake ever made. The colossal confectionery weighed 2,133.5 kg (4,703 lb), had a diameter of 2.5 m (8 ft 2 in) and was 56 cm (1 ft 10 in) tall. The recipe for the world’s largest cheesecake included 800 kg (1,764 lb) of Philadelphia cream cheese, 800 kg of yogurt, 350 kg (772 lb) of cookies, 250 kg (551 lb) of sugar, 150 kg (331 lb) of butter and 100 kg (220 lb) of strawberries, along with other ingredients.

World’s Largest Plate of Hummus

Hummus is a dish that often finds different varieties depending on the creator, but is normally made from mashed up chickpeas, sesame paste, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic. While eaten for centuries, the exact origin seems to be unknown. Lebanon decided to take things into their own hands, and with the collaboration of some 300 chefs, they filled a massive ceramic plate of hummus in downtown Beirut. The final 4,532 lb. (2,056 kilograms) dish utilized 2,976 pounds of mashed chickpeas, 106 gallons of lemon juice and 57 pounds of salt. Shortly after, a representative from the Guiness Book of World Records confirmed their record-breaking dish.

World’s Largest Easter Egg

The Easter egg or Ukrainian ‘Pysanka,’ was constructed in 1975 to commemorate early Ukrainian settlements in an area east of Edmonton. Professor Resch was responsible for the entire Pysanka concept which required the development of new computer programs. The Pysanka is really an immense jig-saw puzzle containing 524 star patterns, 2,206 equilateral triangles, 3,512 visible facets, 6,978 nuts and bolts, and 177 internal struts.

World’s Largest Lily

Flaming Red Giant was erected in 1990 by Ralph Korody, as a symbol of community recognition to a pioneer and long time resident of our district, DR. A. J. (Bert) Porter. This represents one of many varieties developed at Honeywood Nursery. Home town of this flower is Parkside, Saskatchewan.

World’s Largest Thermometer

Will Herron, a businessman, dreamed of a huge thermometer for 25 years before he made it a reality in California’s high desert. The World’s Largest Thermometer is 134-ft.-tall, symbolic of the record high temperature in the US, in Death Valley — 134 degrees Fahrenheit in 1913.

World’s Largest Motorcycle

The world’s largest motorcycle comes with a $300,000 price tag and stands at 11 feet high and measures 20 feet long. Created by Greg Dunham, this monster motorcycle could actually drive.

World’s Largest Pool

Already drawing the crowds in the South American resort of San Alfonso del Mar in Chile, this artificial lagoon and swimming pool is eight hectares in size and contains an incredible 250,000 cubic meters of water. Acknowledged by Guinness World Records as being the world’s largest swimming pool, the lagoon trounces all other record holders in the category, including the Orthlieb pool in Casablanca, Morocco, itself a huge 150 meters by 100 meters – the San Alfonso pool is 1km in length.

World’s Largest Plane

The An-225 is quoted as having a maximum takeoff weight of over 1.3 million pounds (600,000 kg). The FAI gives credit for a slightly lower weight of 1.12 million pounds (508,200 kg), the record set by an An-225 in 1989 for the largest mass ever lifted by an airplane to an altitude of 6,500 ft (2,000 m). The An-225 was originally built to ferry the Soviet Buran space shuttle but it is now used to transport various outsize cargos. Only one example was ever completed, and it is currently available for charter flights. The An-225 is a cargo transport only and has never been used as an airliner.

World’s Largest Building

Burj Dubai (Arabic for “Dubai Tower”) is a skyscraper under construction in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and is the tallest man-made structure on Earth other than broadcasting towers. Construction began on September 21, 2004, and it is expected to be completed and ready for occupation in September 2009.

World’s Largest TV

While Sharp and Panasonic are claiming largest for individual technologies, TecnoVision is having none of it and pitching its 205in screen as the World’s Largest Television full stop. The Luxio measures a whopping 455x256cm – that’s enough to almost fill an entire wall.

World’s Largest Aquarium

This is one of the world’s biggest fish tanks – so big that it’s even been named the Kuroshio Sea.
Located in the Churaumi Aquarium in Okinawa, Japan, the enormous tank is some ten metres deep, 35 metres wide and 27 metres long. It holds a staggering 7,500 tonnes of water – roughly equal to three Olympic-sized swimming pools.

World’s Largest Crayola Crayon

It weighs 1,500 pounds and is 15 feet long. Apparently, this crayon could draw a line 10 miles long! Crayola created this monster sized crayon with crayons donated by children to celebrate the company’s 100th birthday! This is a great story.

World’s Largest Six Pack

It is located in La Crosse, Wisconsin. You can’t keep a good roadside attraction down! The World’s Largest Six-Pack has risen anew. Once painted in the colors of Heileman’s “Old Style Lager” beer, the six aging tanks that make up the six pack were painted over following the closure of the brewery back in 2001.

World’s Largest Ice Cream Cake

Chinese workers were seen celebrating after they broke the Guinness World Record for the biggest ice-cream cake more than a year ago in Beijing, January 16, 2006. The cake is 4.8 meters long, 3 meters wide, and 1 meter high, and weighs 8 tons. It was recognized as the largest ice-cream cake, according to the Guinness World Records.

World’s Largest Cruise Ship

Oasis of the Seas is an Oasis-class cruise ship in the fleet of Royal Caribbean International. The first of her class, she is expected to be joined by her sister ship Allure of the Seas in December 2010. Both vessels are expected to cruise the Caribbean from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She set a new record of carrying over 6,000 passengers. Oasis of the Seas offers passengers features such as two-story loft suites and luxury suites measuring 1,600 sq ft (150 m2) with balconies overlooking the sea or promenades. The ship features a zip-line, a casino, a mini-golf course, multiple night clubs, several bars and lounges, a karaoke club, comedy club, four swimming pools, volleyball and basketball courts, theme parks and nurseries for children.

World’s Largest Fountain

The fountains, which has yet to be named, will be capable of shooting water over 150 metres into the air – the height of a 50-storey building – and stretch over 275 metres – the length of two football fields. The $218 million project will be 25 percent larger than the iconic fountains at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas. Like the Fountains of Bellagio, Emaar’s fountains will include an integral light and sound show and is expected to become one of Dubai’s major tourist attractions, drawing over 10 million visitors per year.

World’s Largest Golden Nugget

It’s named “Hand of Faith,” it’s the size of a baby, and it weighs almost 62 pounds. It was found in 1980 by a guy in Australia with a metal detector, who reportedly almost didn’t bother to dig it up because he thought that his machine was faulty. Hand of Faith was only six inches below the surface. The Golden Nugget bought it for a million dollars. WOW!

Based on recent estimates there are approximately 30-50 million species on Earth. Among those species were the common birds, dogs, cats and fishes but did you know that there are strange and weird species which you probably haven’t heard of? Here listed below is a compilation of the strangest and weirdest animal species on Earth.

Solenodon

Solenodons are venomous, nocturnal, burrowing, insectivorous mammals belonging to the family Solenodontidae. Only one genus, Solenodon, is known, although a few other genera were erected at one time and are now regarded as junior synonyms. The Solenodontidae family is interesting to phylogenetics researchers due to its retention of primitive mammal characteristics; their species resemble very closely those that lived near the end of the age of the dinosaurs.

African Civet

The African Civet is a common viverrid native to tropical Africa. Unlike many other members of the family, which resemble cats, the African Civet resembles a short dog-like animal. Like all civets it has perianal glands that produce a fluid known as civetone (used in the perfume industry), which it spreads on markers in its territory to claim its range.

São Tomé Shrew

The São Tomé Shrew (Crocidura thomensis) is a white-toothed shrew found only on São Tomé Island, São Tomé and Príncipe. It is listed as a critically endangered species due to habitat loss and a restricted range.

Long-beaked echidna

The long-beaked echidnas make up one of the two genera (genus Zaglossus) of echidnas, spiny monotremes that lives in New Guinea. There are three living species and two extinct species in this genus. Echidnas are one of the two types of mammals that lay eggs.

Sea pig

Sea pigs are also known as scotoplanes, a genus of deep-sea holothurians (sea cucumbers). This sea creature is like a cross between a pig and a slug. I still think it’s cute, despite the fact that it looks like it has human fingers growing out of its mouth.

Pangolin

A pangolin, also scaly anteater or tenggiling, is a mammal of the order Pholidota. Pangolins have large keratin scales covering their skin and are the only mammals with this adaptation. They are found in tropical regions of Africa and Asia. The name “pangolin” derives from the Malay word pengguling (“something that rolls up”). Pangolins are nocturnal animals, and use their well-developed sense of smell to find insects. The long-tailed pangolin is also active by day. Pangolins spend most of the daytime sleeping, curled up into a ball.

Vampire squid

The Vampire Squid is a small, deep-sea cephalopod found throughout the temperate and tropical oceans of the world. With their long velar filaments deployed, Vampire Squid have been observed drifting along in the deep, black ocean currents. If the filaments contact an entity, or if vibrations impinge upon them, the animals investigate with rapid acrobatic movements. They are capable of swimming at speeds equivalent to two body lengths per second, with an acceleration time of five seconds. However, their weak muscles limit stamina considerably.

Aardvark

The Aardvark is a medium-sized, burrowing, nocturnal mammal native to Africa. The aardvark is nocturnal and is a solitary creature that feeds almost exclusively on ants and termites; the only fruit eaten by aardvarks is the aardvark cucumber. Aardvarks can live to be over 24 years old in captivity.

Chinese giant salamander

The Chinese giant salamander is the largest salamander in the world, reaching a length of 180 cm (6 ft), although it rarely – if ever – reaches that size today. Endemic to rocky mountain streams and lakes in China, it is considered critically endangered due to habitat loss, pollution, and over-collecting, as it is considered a delicacy and used in traditional Chinese medicine. Records from Taiwan may be the results of introductions. It has been listed as one of the top-10 “focal species” in 2008 by the Evolutionarily Distinct and Globally Endangered (EDGE) project.

Sumatran rhino

The Sumatran Rhino is a mostly solitary animal except for courtship and child-rearing. It is the most vocal rhino species and also communicates through marking soil with its feet, twisting saplings into patterns, and leaving excrement. The rhino spends a large part of its day in wallows. When mud holes are unavailable, the rhino will deepen puddles with its feet and horns. The wallowing behavior helps the rhino maintain its body temperature and protect its skin from ectoparasites and other insects.

Greater Galago

The greater galagos or thick-tailed bushbabies are the common name for three species of strepsirrhine primates. They are classified in the genus Otolemur in the family Galagidae.

Amazon River Dolphin aka Boto

The Amazon River Dolphin, alternately Bufeo, Bufeo Colorado, Boto, Boto Cor de Rosa, Boutu, Nay, Tonina, or Pink River Dolphin, is a freshwater river dolphin endemic to the Orinoco, Amazon and Araguaia/Tocantins River systems of Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela. Because they are unfused, the neck vertebrae of the Amazon River Dolphin are able to turn 180 degrees. The pink dolphin has been listed as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of the Nature due to pollution, over fishing, excessive boat trafficking and habitat loss. The brain of the river dolphin is 40% larger than a human brain.

Mola mola aka Ocean Sunfish

The ocean sunfish, Mola mola, or common mola, is the heaviest known bony fish in the world. It has an average adult weight of 1,000 kg. Sunfish live on a diet that consists mainly of jellyfish, but because this diet is nutritionally poor, they consume large amounts in order to develop and maintain their great bulk. Females of the species can produce more eggs than any other known vertebrate. Sunfish fry resemble miniature pufferfish, with large pectoral fins, a tail fin and body spines uncharacteristic of adult sunfish.

Tasmanian Devil

The Tasmanian devil is a carnivorous marsupial now found in the wild only in the Australian island state of Tasmania. Because they were seen as a threat to livestock in Tasmania, devils were hunted until 1941, when they became officially protected. Since the late 1990s, devil facial tumour disease has reduced the devil population significantly and now threatens the survival of the species, which in May 2009 was declared to be endangered.
